Joelson Wilson advises NEC on Genting Stanley’s £90m proposed leisure and entertainment development – May 2008

Joelson Wilson & Co acted for The National Exhibition Centre and Birmingham City Council (owners of the NEC site) in connection with Genting Stanley’s proposal to develop within the NEC complex what would be one of the largest leisure and entertainment centres in the UK. The centre would include one of the 8 ‘large casinos’ permitted by the Gambling Act 2005. Solihull, where the NEC is situated, is one of the council districts selected as suitable for a large casino, for which Genting Stanley hope to obtain a casino licence and are prepared to commit £90 million to the development, to be called ‘Resorts World @ The NEC’.

Sheldon Cordell (Corporate) and Keith Miller (Property) represented the NEC and the City Council throughout the tender process to select the successful developer and casino operator and subsequently in the negotiations leading to the exchange of a conditional agreement for lease.
